There are many aluminum alloys. The types made for marine use are usually in the 5000 and 6000 series (Marine Grade Aluminum AlloyMarine Grade Aluminum Alloy). 5052 is a common grade for use when formability is required, while 5083 and 6061 T6 are used where additional strength is required. Most Marine Grade Aluminum Alloys have additional chromium and manganese to make them more resistant to corrosion.
