Highland Metals Marine Grade Aluminum

Marine Grade Aluminum Alloy 5052

Marine Grade Aluminum Alloy 5052Marine Grade Aluminum Alloy 5052 as a non-heat treatable grade offers a high level of strength. Its fatigue strength is greater than the majority of other aluminum grades. In addition, it offers good resistance to Marine atmosphere and saltwater corrosion.

Marine Grade Aluminum Alloy 5052 contains nominally 2.5% magnesium, 0.25% chromium and has good workability, medium static strength, high fatigue strength, good weldability, and very good corrosion resistance, especially in marine atmospheres. It also has the low density and excellent thermal conductivity similar to other aluminum alloys. Marine Grade Aluminum Alloy 5052  can be hardened by cold work and is not heat treatable to higher strength. Since the alloy spontaneously ages at room temperature immediately after cold work, all flat rolled mill products are supplied with stable properties using a stabilization treatment. This is usually achieved by a stabilization thermal treatment, either a low temperature thermal treatment or as a result of heat introduced during rolling, which results in the H3x tempers.

This grade is used in a wide range of atmospheric environments, including food and architectural applications and in many marine environments. The magnesium content is low enough that it does not suffer from the stress corrosion cracking that can affect alloys with more than about 3.5% Mg. Marine Grade Aluminum Alloy 5052 is also used for consumer electronics casings, notebook computers and televisions.

The tempers of Marine Grade Aluminum Alloy 5052: 5052 O, 5052H32, 5052H34, 5052H24

Hardness Grades: The “2”,”4”,”6”,”8” portion in the H32, H34, H24 and H18 represent the hardness. The larger the number is, the higher the hardness is. For example, the hardness of H34 is higher than that of H32. The “2”,”4”,”6”,”8” Stands for 1/4 hardness, 1/2 hardness, 3/4 hardness and full hard.

In short, Marine Grade Aluminum Alloy 5052 belongs to Al-Mg aluminum alloy with about 2.5% magnesium alloy. It is of high strength than 1 series and 3 series aluminum sheet. In addition, 5052 H32 aluminum sheet has good oxidation effect and good bending ability, which is suitable for marine parts, cabinets and other classic materials that need bending processing products.
